All About Our Unit
2022-2023 Area 7 Distinguished Unit Award!
Thomson High School NJROTC Unit was established in 2008 under the leadership and guidance of Commander, Naval Service Training Command, Rear Admiral Arnold Lotring, McDuffie County School System Superintendent, Dr. Mychelle Rhodes, Thomson High School Principal, Rudolph “Rudy” Falana, Senior Naval Science Instructor, Captain Robert Brewer (USN, Retired) and Naval Science Instructor, Gunnery Sergeant Larry Dunn (USMC, Retired). Originally assigned to NJROTC Unit 12 until 2023 the unit has seen notable growth and success. Now having been assigned to Area 7 of the NJROTC Program we are looking forward to working with the schools within the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) of Georgia and South Carolina and our current assigned Area Manager, CAPT Jerry Hupp.
Our unit has been awarded the BRAVO ZULU award for efforts in 2016 and 2018 and the UNIT ACHIEVEMENT award in 2020.


Our
Mission
The Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) program's mission is stated in the National Defense Act of 1916 (with the Navy starting in 1966): The purpose of NJROTC is "To install in Cadets the value of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment."
